April is Autism Awareness Month. Brandon and I are spending a lot of time together while following the stay at home order. What have I become more aware of this month regarding my son?
Recently, Brandon started wearing his underwear and shorts backwards. I have asked him why and he, of course, doesn’t know how to tell me. I do know that when we ask him to put them on correctly, he says “no thank you.” Fine. Wear them backwards. In the whole scheme of life, it really doesn’t matter.
When Steve cut Brandon’s hair a few days ago, we noticed he has a widow’s peak. His hairline is receding and all the curls were covering it up. He doesn’t really care about this (we don’t either), we just hadn’t noticed it before.
He LOVES The Simpsons. This is a new thing and I am actually quite thankful for this one. There are currently 31 seasons of The Simpsons, so there is always an episode I haven’t seen. Brandon tends to get “stuck” on certain things. We have seen the movie Toy Story at least 500 times, so having something different to watch is a blessing.
His interest in music is quite eclectic. Currently, Brandon’s favorite song is Deck the Halls. Lately, though, he is branching out to other genres of music. Sometimes it is Disturbed’s Down With the Sickness. Other times, it is Cruise by Florida Georgia Line. And most recently, he is liking Prince’s When Doves Cry. It is nice to here something besides Christmas music!
Brandon uses his iPod all day, every day, with his headphones. He does not, however, like to charge it while he is using it. He will drain the battery all the way to 0% before charging. Brandon is not the most patient when waiting for it to charge. We are working on this, but it isn’t going as well as I had hoped. There has been some angry jumping when I can’t make the iPod charge faster. Why have I never noticed this before?
One thing that hasn’t changed is his complete and total love for animals and Cabelas. We talk about animals many times daily. He will be so excited when he is is able to see the animals at Cabelas and go the zoo. I will, too!
Stay well, friends, and keep washing those hands!
